History:

Dick Grayson worked as a trapeze aerialist with his father, mother and brother. While performing with them in Gotham City, Dick's parents were brutally murdered by the deranged killer Two-Face. Although Dick prevented Two-Face's cronies from detonating a bomb, he was unable to save his family. Witness to the incident was Bruce Wayne who took Dick under his wing and offered him a place to stay at Wayne Manor. Reluctant to accept the millionaire's help, Dick eventually agreed and soon found the secret entrance that led to the Batcave. Discovering that Bruce Wayne was actually Batman, Dick implored him to make him his partner so that he could avenge himself against Two-Face. Inspired by a child-hood nickname, Dick fashioned his own costume and called himself Robin. Seeing that Robin was determined to kill Two-Face, Batman showed him that murder would not alleviate the pain of his loss. Robin had his chance to finish Two-Face off, but circumstances outside of his control led to the villain's seeming demise. Robin continued to adventure as Batman's sidekick, ultimately updating his costume for one more similar to that of his partner. Batman and he fought up against the likes of Mister Freeze, Poison Ivy and Bane. Although their relationship suffered due to Batman's alleged lack of trust in Dick's abilities, their partnership strengthened when they added Batgirl into their private family.

Notes:

  • The character of Robin was played by actor Chris O'Donnell in the two Batman films in which he appeared.
  • When he first appears as a trapeze performer, Dick is wearing a circus outfit that is similar in design to the original Earth-One Robin costume. His super-hero costume however, is more akin to the first costume worn by his comic counterpart's successor Tim Drake. In Batman and Robin, Dick changes his costume for a darker uniform reflective of the comic Grayson's evolution into the character of Nightwing.
